Our Story

THE BEGINNING OF THE CORBEL:

In 2001, Don Charlet and his brother opened a straight-forward business that built handmade furniture from reclaimed Louisiana cypress and sold lumber to other craftsmen and home builders. As time went on they expanded their selection of architectural salvage and began to sell antique doors, reclaimed stain glass windows, and their namesake, antique corbels. The Corbel operated for 20 years in a building that had a relatively small store front and large warehouse for for storing doors and other furniture pieces. As The Corbel grew they found themselves adding more home decor items and quickly needed more space. Now the Corbel’s home is a beautiful 12,000 square foot showroom that holds home decor for every room in the house alongside the antique furniture, doors and architectural salvage that The Corbel is so well known for.

WHAT CAN YOU FIND?

The Corbel is not just a store, it is a destination! We offer many décor items for your home including lighting which is made up of unique lamps and chandeliers, wire table top and floor baskets, decorative accessories from candlesticks to wine barrel top trays and lazy susans. Along with our accessories we also offer many unique pieces of furniture. We carry select pieces that we receive from our pickers in Europe and custom hand-made pieces that are constructed in our warehouse by our artisans. Our collections are a mix of old and new, rough and smooth, rustic and modern-to say we appreciate all styles would be an understatement! Along with our retail store front, The Corbel, we also have a 10,000 s.f. warehouse where we design, create and produce hand-made furniture. We produce custom pieces for clients along with keeping a stock of dining tables for customers to purchase off the floor. Our designer works with customer to create one-of-a-kind pieces of furniture fashioned from antique woods such as heart pine and cypress. We encourage clients to bring their own inspiration pieces whether it’s an image from a website, a page out of a magazine or a sketch that they have drawn. Set-up an appointment with our designer to begin the design process today! Our selection does not stop there! We carry many architectural treasures, such as heart pine flooring, reclaimed wood beams, and one of the best selections of antique doors. Our team not only finds these treasures across seas, but also scouts homes in Louisiana from the 1800’s to salvage everything from the wood flooring to the lighting fixtures. All these architectural details that we take from these homes are brought back to our warehouse where we have stock of everything from corbels to wrought iron fence sections all available for your customization.
